Vitamin D is a very important substance for our body, because it is responsible for the absorption of calcium, an element that is not produced by the human body but is essential for its health and functionality: it is involved in the health of bones to make them more robust and protect them from fractures, in the functioning of the central and peripheral nervous system, in coagulation and muscle contraction.

This vitamin is taken into the body in two ways:

1. Through the synthesis that our organism carries out when exposed to the sun

2. Through foods such as milk and dairy products and cod liver

However, 70% of the Italian population has below minimum levels of vitamin D in the blood and this puts these people at serious risk of osteoporosis.

To ensure a certain amount of this precious micronutrient, it would be excellent to be able to expose yourself to the sun every day for at least 30 minutes, but avoiding the early afternoon hours, when the sun's rays are strongest.

Eventually, in case of too low vitamin D, it is also possible to resort to specific supplements.

Don't underestimate the importance of this vitamin and now that summer is coming, remember to spend time in the sun, always choosing the best times of the day 🌞

Your bones will thank you!
