Mainly used in professional sports, this type of massage involves special tissue stimulation to improve performance and facilitate intense muscle movements.

It differs from most physiotherapy massages because it is performed locally and in a goal-oriented manner, in fact there are three different types of sports massage:

1. PRE-RACE -> warms up the muscles, stretching them and making them flexible, to prevent injuries during athletic-sporting performance

2. POST-RACE -> reduces swelling caused by micro-traumas, loosens tired and contracted muscles, reducing the likelihood of cramps and speeding up the athlete's recovery times

3. MAINTENANCE -> performed at least once a week, it helps keep muscles flexible and stretched.

The goal of all sports massages is to maximize athletic performance and although these massages are performed locally, they still have general effects, both muscle activation and relaxation.
