Like all joints, the elbow can also be subject to trauma and among the most common painful conditions are:

EPICONDYLITIS : also known as 'tennis elbow', is an inflammation that results from the repetitive stress of the tendons that allow the muscles to extend the fingers of the hand and the wrist. The pain affects the outside of the elbow and is accentuated when the patient tries to grasp an object with the hand.

EPITROCHLEITIS : or 'golfer's elbow', presents pain in the inner part of the forearm and affects those who perform repetitive movements, especially of a rotary type.

RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS : the patient generally reports pain in the forearm and tingling in the 4th and 5th fingers of the hand, since the ulnar nerve could be included in the bony structure of the elbow.

Other causes may include osteoarthritis, bursitis, herniated disc, tendonitis or tenosynovitis.
