Akinesia (or akinesis) is a disorder that manifests itself with the loss of normal muscular reaction, which causes difficulty in initiating and executing voluntary movements. The discomfort affects the gesticulatory activity that accompanies speech, changes in facial expression and oscillations of the upper limbs while walking.

The main pathologies that can be associated with the presence of akinesia are Parkinson's disease and catatonic schizophrenia.
Furthermore, akinesia is not treated directly but is addressed indirectly, that is, through the resolution of the medical pathology that is at its origin.

Among the treatment options there are therefore some specific drugs, but when the drug therapy does not bring the desired results, other solutions can be considered, such as the use of physical exercise. We remember that many patients who suffer from akinesia derive great benefit from it, because regularly doing physical exercise can help them reduce the pain and discomfort related to their condition.

It is important to speak with a professional to develop an exercise plan that is comfortable and safe for your symptoms and progression of akinesia.
